Why Did Mark Steines Leave Hallmarks Home & Family?

Production of the series and all other Hallmark Channel original content was suspended on March 13, 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The series returned for a ninth season in September 2020, before production was suspended again in December 2020 per recommendations by Los Angeles County health officials . In March 2021, it was reported that Home & Family would resume production on March 29, with first-run episodes resuming on April 5 in a new one-hour format, airing on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesday mornings. On March 23, Hallmark Channel announced that Home & Family had been cancelled, and would air its final episode on August 4, 2021. Crown Media and The Hallmark Channel have not made any statements about plans to replace “Home & Family” with another series. The daytime series was only airing three days a week, at 10 a.m.

Debbie Matenopoulos and Cameron Mathison host the ninth season of "Home & Family." Though she’s moving on in her career, Ferrare felt it was important to share her story. She was “proud as heck” to be a part of Hallmark Channel, which is why she’s disappointed she never got to have “closure.” Now, two years later, Ferrare’s finally trying to get it. Steines’ representative told Deadline that he was given relatively the same reason as to why he was being fired.

Hallmark’s ‘Home & Family’ Canceled

In March of 2021, however, audiences noticed that Hallmark had started airing reruns. Before too long, fans received the bad news that the show had been canceled. In 1997, Matenopoulos made a name for herself by offering her point-of-view as one of the original five co-hosts of Barbara Walters' groundbreaking talk show “The View” for its first two seasons. As the youngest person in daytime history to hold a permanent co-host position on network television, Matenopoulos helped shape the show by being instrumental in building the show’s format and reputation. Offering the younger generation's perspective, Matenopoulos helped make the program a tremendous success and pop culture phenomenon.

Matenopoulos finished by saying that she and the rest of the cast will "miss dearly," but offered no further insight into his departure. Debbie Matenopoulos Is Considering Returning to ‘The View,’ While Also Developing 2 Food Shows & a Lifestyle Show

Steines, 54, made his first post-Hallmark TV appearance as a guest co-anchor on an episode of “Extra,” last week. As for Ferrare, she now runs her lifestyle blog and is working on a new cookbook that’s set to be released later this year. Mark Steines was once the host of Hallmark’sHome & Familybefore Cameron Mathison took over in his place. Steines filed a lawsuit saying he left due to sexual harassment issues. Crown Media denied the allegations and the lawsuit was later dismissed in January 2020. Another person involved with the series also filed a lawsuit shortly after Steines.

Now that Steines, too, has been fired from “Home & Family” with no notice or chance to announce his leave to fans after six years on the show, Ferrare decided to open up about what really happened during her firing. This is why you don't see Mark Steines on Hallmark productions anymore. Variety reported that some of the claims were settled out of court. Deadline reported in 2018 that executive Woody Fraser was removed by Crown Media after receiving a number of complaints.

Steines' contract had not expired and he was not informed until after he had taped what was his last show. On July 26, 2018, Cameron Mathison was named as Matenopoulos' new co-host, to assume his position in September with the launch of the seventh season. The revived show's ninth season became its last, following cancellation by Hallmark Channel in March 2021. The final episode aired on August 4, 2021, with hosts Debbie Matenopoulos and Cameron Mathison. The series originally premiered on April 1, 1996, on The Family Channel, and was dropped by the network immediately prior to its 1998 relaunch as the Fox Family Channel. In 2012, Hallmark Channel picked up a revival of the series, airing as a two-hour program on weekday mornings.

Deadline reported receiving the same statement from Hallmark about the cancelation, as did other media outlets. The Hallmark Channel did not give a reason for the show’s cancelation. I think the hosts are genuine and the whole staff seem to genuinely like one another.

Cameron Mathison has since replaced Steines as Matenopoulos’ full-time co-host. Ussanews.com needs to review the security of your connection before proceeding. Prior to this, the show had been on hiatus twice due to the pandemic. It halted production in March 2020 when COVID-19 first began to spread. Then it resumed production in September 2020, as Heavy had previously reported, but shut down again on December 21.

For fans who are confused by the show’s fate, it seems safe to assume that the COVID-19 shutdowns likely had a lot to do with Home & Family ending. After all, unlike Hallmark’s other content that can be filmed ahead of time, Home & Family’s production could be shut down over and over again any time COVID waves came through. Failing that, Hallmark Channel execs could have felt like their daytime programming needed a refresh since Home & Family had dominated the channel’s daytime time slots for almost a decade. He’s joining “General Hospital,” but details about his character are still being kept secret, Soap Opera Digest reported on August 2. When “Home & Family” was first reduced to just airing three days a week, he reached out to “General Hospital” about possibly joining the cast.

Just like a lot of other industries, the entertainment business was hit hard by the pandemic with many productions shutting down. Unfortunately for everyone involved with Hallmark Channel’s Home & Family as well as the show’s fans, it was one of the shows that were shut down. Debbie Matenopoulos and Cameron Mathison are looking to the future now that Hallmark's "Home & Family" has aired its final episode. But while she’s working on these projects, she’s also considering returning to “The View.” In early July, reports began circulating that Matenopoulos might rejoin the daytime show.

They agreed and everything worked out perfectly when he later found out that “Home & Family” was going to be canceled. Debbie, who has been a co-host on the series since 2016, celebrated the announcement of the show's eighth season back in 2019 with an Instagram post. "I have never felt so fortunate and proud to work for a network who values all of the right and important things in life," she wrote.

"I’m here to share some news, and the family has joined me because we truly are a family, and while we just had a really great show, we have a very hard announcement to deliver," Matenopoulos said. "Our dear friend, our very good friend, and my wonderful co-host for years, Mr. Mark Steines, is no longer with Home & Family." The sudden turn of events has left fans of the show stunned and seeking answers, to say the least. "What?! Why?! @MarkSteines is an integral member of the show," commented one Twitter user.
